During my college days, my professor and advisor was very instrumental in my rise on social media. He insisted that I tweet throughout the day and engage with fellow marketers and communicators. I stumbled upon Madalyn Sklar’s twitter account one day. I felt like I had hit the jackpot! Her timeline was filled with tips on growing your followers and building a brand on social media. I immediately followed her and began implementing her tips. Aside from her tweets, Madalyn Sklar plugged her twitter chat #TwitterSmarter. I was curious. I had never heard of a twitter chat before. I clicked around and found out that it was a conversation filled with people like me sharing tips and learning information to build their brands on Twitter.
I thought it was so awesome and set my calendar to participate in the next chat. After a few weeks of participating in the chat, I saw my followers and knowledge base grow. I was making friends with fellow #TwitterSmarter participants and being introduced to other chats such as #HootChat (which I happened to win Hoot swag from). Twitter chats are my key to true growth . If you’re looking to grow your followers and build your brand, Twitter chats might help you achieve your goals.
- You’ll meet new people. You’ll grow your network by sharing your thoughts every week with a group of people. Typically the people in the chat are regulars with a few newbies jumping in from time to time. You’ll become Twitter homies with people who share your interests and want the same results that you do. Sounds great for collaborating, right?
- You’ll gain new followers. Not just randos, but people who actually care about what you have to say. This means an increase in engagements and more credibility down the road.
- You’ll learn new information. I learned so much about engagement, building an organic following, using social media to promote my brand, developing content creation strategies… the information is endless!
The more I participate in Twitter chats, the more I learn and grow from the experience. I encourage you to find a few Twitter chats that can help you meet people in your industry and create opportunities for your brand to grow.
Happy Twitter Chatting!
